Romans 9.17 - 10.21 • 3/8/16

Our sovereign God “has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens.” (Rom 9.18) Scripture clearly teaches that God is in control - and it also teaches that we have free will. “if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Rom 10.9)

How do we deal with what seem to us to be diametrically opposed principles? Through FAITH.

“Faith is the confidence in what we is hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” (Heb 11.1)

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” (Rom 10.17)

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” (2Cor 5.7)

Romans 9 is about God’s sovereign choices. Romans 10 is about our free will and responsibility for our choices.

God’s choices are in the Scripture. We may not like it. We may not understand it. But we must submit to it for they are part of the Biblical truth. We are left to deal with the fact that God sovereignly exercises His choices and we must live witht he results. Our free will does not change nor determine how God chooses.
