John 14  •  5/12/15

Jesus works to prepare His disciples for what was to come, however, they keep interrupting Him.

Thomas said, “We don’t know where You are going, how can we know the way?” (John 15.5)

Jesus response is stunning! “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (God) except through me.” An audacious response. (John 15.6)

You may recall that the "multitudes were astonished at his teaching: for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.” (Matt 7.28b-29) Their scribes taught by citing this or that authority — Jesus spoke with authority, as though He was the authority — and He was!

Phillip said, “…show us the Father…” (John 5.8) And received another stunning response!

“He who has seen me (Jesus) has seen the Father…” So if you want to know what God is like — look to Jesus!!

Jesus keeps returning to the preparation of His disciples for what was to come. He then tells them, “...I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever - the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept, because it does not see him or know him. But you know him, because he resides with you and will be in you. I will not leave you helpless, I will come to you.” (John 15.16-18)

Jesus begins with the job description for the Holy Spirit, and He will continue to prepare them for what was to come.
